Static Apnea is an immersive performance installation meant to convey a visceral experience informed by the sport of free-diving. One artist performs for one audience member at a time. The performance lasts precisely 9 minutes and 2 seconds–the amount of time Russian world record setting free-diver, Natalia Molchanova, could hold her breath. The piece explores depth–both out of choice and necessity.
